Australian Botanicals in Parfum

Australian Botanicals in Parfum

A botanical carries its country in it. The same plant, grown in different soil, under different light, in different air, smells different. Origin is not a label. It is something you can breathe.

This is why Australian botanicals matter to the scents we make. What this land gives that no other can. And why made in Melbourne means more than a line on a box.

Why origin changes a scent

Soil, climate, altitude, rainfall. Every condition a plant grows in shapes the oils it produces. Two harvests of the same species, from opposite sides of the world, can smell like distant relatives.

Perfumers have always known this. It is why a sandalwood from one country is treasured and another merely tolerated. The plant is the same name. The scent is not.

Australia gives its botanicals something particular. A dryness. A resin. A weathered, ancient quality that comes from a land older than almost anywhere else on earth.

The Australian botanicals we are drawn to

Australian Sandalwood, grounding and soft, runs through much of the collection. It anchors Petrichor Plains, Guilty Story, Kirra Curl and Sinful Rose without ever sweetening them.

Australian Blue Cypress brings the still quiet of first light to Munlark Ash, alongside fir needle and tree sap. It smells of walking deep into the bush as darkness falls.

We are drawn to wood and earth, marine air and stone, the green of the Australian bush. We are not drawn to sugar forward sweetness or anything that announces itself before the wearer enters the room.

The hero ingredient: Australian Organic Sugarcane

Beneath every Mihan Aromatics ™ parfum is one constant. A base of Australian Organic Sugarcane alcohol, procured from sustainably practising farms in Northern Queensland.

This is not a neutral choice of carrier. It is Julia's heritage, made liquid. Her grandparents farmed sugarcane in Far North Queensland, and that land now sits at the foundation of every scent we make.

Origin, for us, begins in the family. It runs through the soil of one country and ends on your skin.

Made in Melbourne, not just bottled here

Many fragrances described as Australian are simply assembled here from ingredients and formulas made elsewhere. Origin becomes a postcode on a label.

Mihan parfums are designed, developed, hand filled and assembled in Melbourne. A true product of Australia, anchored by an Australian botanical, carrying an Australian story. Read more in our guide to Australian parfum.

Tasting origin in the collection

The clearest way to understand origin is to smell it. Series Two is dedicated entirely to the Australian landscape: the petrichor of rain on dry plains, the ancient resin of undisturbed bush, the salt restlessness of a surf coast dawn.

The Discovery Set holds all seven parfums in miniature. Wear them and you are wearing the land itself, distilled.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the origin of a botanical matter in parfum?

Soil, climate, rainfall and light all shape the oils a plant produces. The same species grown in different places can smell distinctly different, so origin directly affects the character of a scent.

What Australian botanicals are used in Mihan parfums?

Australian Sandalwood appears across the collection, and Australian Blue Cypress features in Munlark Ash. The base of every parfum is Australian Organic Sugarcane alcohol from Northern Queensland.

What makes Australian Sandalwood different?

Australian Sandalwood is prized for a grounding, soft quality. In the Mihan collection it anchors a scent without sweetening it, lending warmth and depth at the base.

What does made in Melbourne actually mean for Mihan?

Mihan parfums are designed, developed, hand filled and assembled in Melbourne, rather than simply bottled here from ingredients made elsewhere. A true product of Australia.

What is the hero ingredient in Mihan parfum?

Australian Organic Sugarcane, procured from sustainably practising farms in Northern Queensland. It forms the alcohol base of all seven parfums and carries the founders' family heritage.

Which Mihan parfums best capture the Australian landscape?

Series Two is dedicated to it: Petrichor Plains, Munlark Ash and Kirra Curl, capturing rain on dry plains, undisturbed bush, and the surf coast.
